Winds of Enchantment Event
As part of St Oswald’s Centenary Celebrations our Music Director and organist Elizabeth-Anne Nixon with ‘The St Oswald’s Players’ recorder group played a variety ‘wind’ music. Composers such as Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) - J.S Bach (1685 - 1750) and many more.
Elizabeth - Anne: It was the organ works of Bach and the opportunity to study with Robert Boughen that first drew Elizabeth -Anne Nixon to study the organ and its repertoire as a university student in Brisbane. After completing undergraduate studies with first-class honours in performance, Elizabeth - Anne was awarded postgraduate scholarships from Australian, Japanese, German and Italian governments. Her extended studies included a focus on early repertoire with John O’Donnell (Melbourne) and Lorenzo Ghielmi (Italy), as well as intensive studies with Daniel Roth (France) and David Sanger (England).
Since settling in Melbourne, Elizabeth - Anne has divided her work between teaching, collaborative performance on piano, organ performance and the music programs of Melbourne churches, including St Oswald’s. Her concerts have included early repertoire programmes at the Jurgen Ahrend instrument at Monash University, collaborative performances of major contemporary works for trumpet and organ, and for percussion and organ, and performance of contemporary organ works by women composers from around the world.
Our players all share a passion for the unique sound of a well - balanced group of recorders. It’s not so easy when the instruments are inherently difficult to tune, but worth the effort when the sound is so rich and warm. We also enjoy the immense variety of recorder repertoire, spanning many centuries.
Founding members of the group have been making music together since the 1980’s, with newer players being invited from time to time. Their combined experience from diverse instrumental backgrounds, adds extra insight and skill to our music-making.
