St Oswald’s launches Courtyard Choir with Songs of love for the earth

Part of the new music program at St Oswald’s is Courtyard Choir, a fun and inclusive choir which runs for six weeks with a concert and other community performances.

‘Courtyard Choir is something that the whole community can join. St Oswald’s has a proud history of choral and musical excellence, we thought it was time to take that love of music and singing out of the church and into the community,’ says the Rev Canon Glenn Loughrey.

The musical theme for this year’s first Courtyard Choir is Songs of love for the earth and includes a wide variety of styles of music united by the common thread of concern about the impact we humans continue to have on the planet Earth, our home.

Songs include: What a wonderful world; Big Yellow Taxi; Sunshine Superman; I hear the grass grow; Earth Song; The Rainbow Connection; After the gold rush.

‘You don’t need experience, you don’t have to sit an audition, you don’t need to read music (although it helps). What you do need is to care about the theme which is very topical at the moment as we experience climate uncertainty. You do need to have a love of music,.’ says Music Director and now a member and head honcho of Courtyard Choir, Daniel Brace.

Courtyard Choir is a free, drop-in Covid-safe singing group who meet on Saturday afternoon from 2-4 when in season. The first season of Courtyard Choir is 15 January 2022 to 19 February 2022 with various community performances of the program designed to engage and delight your friends, family and loved ones.
