Men of Glenburton (MOGs)
"We celebrate the things we have in common and respect each other's differences."
The MOGs group was formed at St. Oswald’s in early 2000. Membership is comprised of local area residents from the Ashburton and Glen Iris area of Melbourne with an affinity for sharing life’s experiences and learning.
MOGs is a community-based organization founded on a broad-based set of values of help and care for other humans. Anglican, Baptist, Catholic and other faiths and belief systems are represented. One's colour, race, religion, creed or status is no restriction to participation.
Men often talk about what they do. They are often less likely to discuss their emotions or their personal needs or challenges, or ask for help.
The original aim of the group was therefore to foster the continuous development of our men’s knowledge and understanding of issues such as the impact of technological change, social justice, and health and lifestyle issues through regular meetings and social interaction; a skill that men can sometimes ignore.
With the demise of the associated Caritas ladies’ group, it was agreed from 2022 that the group should be expanded to include an invitation to ladies to attend all events.
Meetings are organised monthly, with members contributing by arranging a speaker from their past experience, inviting financial or technical presenters, or organizing a social function. We share a cup of tea/coffee and a biscuit for a further informal chat at the conclusion of every meeting.
All men and women from the local area are invited to attend any of the meetings.
