Vision and Mission

Vision

St. Oswald’s is a modern progressive Anglican parish committed to growing a sustainable presence in the Glen Iris and Ashburton area. Our vision is "To thrive as a welcoming and inclusive Christian church community”.

St Oswald’s serves the community through traditional Anglican worship and outreach to local people, including support for First Nations and Sinhalese communities. We have a long history of commitment to pastoral care and social justice issues.

Mission

Our Vision and commitment to our faith are achieved through:

  • Our regular worship services in the traditional Anglican tradition with music, prayer and celebration of the Gospel.
  • Our openness to new forms of faith worship and prayerfulness
  • A joy of music though our choir and beautiful organ as well as other groups who share their music at St. Oswald’s.
  • Pastoral care provided by the Vicar and others for people needing support in the community, including those at home and those at Samarinda and other aged care facilities.
  • Building on our 100 year history of commitment to the church and the local community in the Glen iris and Ashburton area
  • A trustee of our beautiful church building and the artworks within, including our famous David Wright stained glass windows.
  • Our strength as a caring Christian organization supporting local communities through social justice and diversity.
  • A central meeting place for community groups, including the Walking Group, and Men of Glenburton (MOGs).
  • Support for the established independent Murnong First Peoples’ Gathering Place devoted to Indigenous well-being, culture and education based around the Womindjeka Garden and the Aboriginal art gallery and gathering place for spiritual refreshment of local and Aboriginal communities.
  • Being trusted landlords for our tenants and community hall hirers.
  • Engagement with other churches and the local council and support for community organizations such as Anglicare.
